Candon City received laudable commendation after successfully hosting the recent Philippine Medical Association Northwestern Luzon Assembly.
Top national officials of PMA headed by Atty. Leo O. Olarte M.D. came over with more than 200 participants.
It is the first major assembly done in the city under the leadership of City Mayor Ericson Singson, who himself is a doctor by profession.
Incidentally he was once a student of Olarte.
Singson in his message challenge the participants to share more their blessings and their profession.
“Let us provide huge dosage of professional support to the government.” Singson said.
PMA’s Northwestern Luzon is headed by PMA Governor Mila Marie Guerrero M.D. while the Southern Ilocos Sur Medical Society led by Dr. Rogeline Gilera served as host.
The participating medical societies were Abra, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan, Baguio- Benguet, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province and Southern Ilocos Sur.
The two-day event included a tour of the PMA national officers and board of governors to the different tourism sites in the city and the towns along the coastal area.
Among the place visited by the group were Candon’s factory of its main local products calamay (glutinous rice cake ) and kornik.
The piedra pinoy in San Esteban and the UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed Santa Maria Church (Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion Church) and proceeded to the historic city of Vigan where Vigan City Mayor Eva Marie Medina and other city officials welcomed and hosted a dinner for the group.
The regional assembly is preparation to the much bigger event, 2014 PMA national convention to held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
There was also a mini-trade fair of native products of the southern Ilocos Sur coordinated by the staff of Congressman Eric Singson led by Mrs. Cely Mendoza and from the Candon City Mayor’s office.
