Philippine Consul General in Honolulu Gina A. Jamoralin welcomed Ilocos Sur 2nd District Representative Eric Dario Singson and his party to Hawaii on September 29.
Representative Singson was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Grace Singson, Candon City Council Members Atty. Kristelle Singson and Rhodana Abrero.
Rep. Singson’s trip was upon the invitation of the “Candonians of Hawaii,” a Filipino organization of Ilocanos in Hawaii who originated from Candon, Ilocos Sur.
The “Candonians of Hawaii” hosted a welcome party for Representative Singson, who also officiated the oath-taking of the organization’s new officers last September 28, 2014.
The lawmaker and the Consul General discussed ways on how to promote Philippine culture, including the Ilocano language, arts and craftsmanship, in Hawaii.
Singson is also promoting a closer relationship between Honolulu City and Candon City. In 2006, he traveled to the island to take part in ceremonies commemorating the 100th anniversary of the arrival in Hawaii of the first Filipino “sacadas,” who were natives of Candon.
While in Hawaii, Represetative Singson met with Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz and Lt. Governor Shan Tsutsui. (Department of Foreign Affairs Republic of the Philippines).
