The mega jobs fair was a success story!
Some 1,359 applicants – 244 were hired on the spot, and 1,115 aspirants were given slots to go abroad- were hired out of the 2, 178 applied in the mega jobs fair.
Come-backing Congressman Eric Singson sponsored the Independence Day mega jobs fair which is a joint project of outgoing Congressman Eric “Owen” Singson, Jr, City government of Candon, Department of Labor and Employment- Ilocos Sur Field Office- Vigan City and the Ilocos Sur Public Employment Service Office Federation.
Fresnida Gundan, DOLE-Ilocos Sur field office head, said post job summary report prepared by Carmen Jo-an Viloria had 7, 154 vacancies – 1,719 for local and 5,355 for overseas job openings.
Gundan said applicants came from Abra, Ilocos Norte and La Union that availed of this rare jobs opportunity.
Sixty companies from local and abroad joined in the jobs fair with the participation of the different concerned government agencies and PESOs from the different towns and Candon City.
With the encouraging success, Rep. Singson mulled for more frequent jobs fairs to give more livelihood opportunities particularly for the Candonians to seek for greener pasture.
“We will do this regularly for the benefit of our constituents and neighboring towns and provinces,” Rep Singson said
Singson said that more jobs fairs plus the livelihood programs and projects that are implemented and to be implemented will result to better economic well-being of the people in the second district.
“I will coordinate with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to conduct for trainings on different skills for local and overseas employment,” he said.
Singson said that he will be extending funds to provide the venue for the training.
Funds are already allotted and deposited at the Ilocos Sur Cooperative Bank for easy loan to the overseas applicants. The applicant just shows proof that his papers for abroad are ready and a certification showing it to avail of the loan, Singson said.
