Candon City capped the year with a bang by making it to the list of 2018 National Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Awardees bestowed by the Department of Interior and Local Government recently.
Candon City delegation led by City Councilor Chito Balagot, who represented City Mayor Ericson Singson, OIC-Chief of Police P/Supt. Dexter Paredes, City Local Government Operations Officer Lily-Ann Colisao and City Information Officer Jun Balbin, received the award from DILG Secretary Eduardo Aṅo in the ceremonial rites held at the Tent City, Manila Hotel, Manila.
The city was one of the 15 component cities and 241 out of possible 1,715 LGUs nationwide.
Secretary Año in his remarks during the awarding rites that the war against drugs can only be won when everyone “chips in” their contribution and to have a good number of LGUs as recipients of the award is a clear manifestation that the country’s illegal drugs efforts are leading to the right direction.
“Congratulations to the winners! As we award today’s recipients, we are guaranteed that we can definitely rely on the LGUs to be our reliable partners in the war against illegal drugs,” Año said.
Former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go represented President Rodrigo Duterte who was the listed Keynote Speaker.
“This is another validation that we are on the right track in our anti-drug campaign and clearly supporting President Duterte’s main thrust,” City Mayor Ericson Singson said.
The recognition is the result of 2017 ADAC Performance Audit conducted the DILG through its Anti-Drug Abuse Council- Project Management Office (ADAC-PMO).
The said performance audit aimed to gather data on ADAC functionality and effectiveness as stipulated in DILG- Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01 which provides for the minimum standard for functionality and effectiveness of local ADACs and sets the performance indicators of a functional ADAC as measurement for effectiveness in support to the reduction of drug affection.
Meanwhile, the said award according to ADAC-PMO is in recognition to the exemplary efforts of LGUs, through their respective ADACs, in complementing the national government’s efforts in eradicating the country’s illegal drug problem.
Ilocos Sur DILG- Provincial Director Virgilio Sison lauded the accolade accorded to the city.
“Congratulations on yet another achievement of your LGU which demonstrates the active performance and functionality of the City Anti- Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) and your strong leadership’s support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs,” Sison said in his letter to City Mayor Singson.
