The city government of Candon under the leadership of City Mayor Ericson Singson in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided skills training to nearly 90 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in the past months.
Based the record of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, there 48 beneficiaries of food preparation and basic cookery while 30 completed the pre-licensing leading security guard training.
There were also 10 beneficiaries of Housekeeping training.
“We gave them the opportunity to have the needed skills training to help themselves and family,” City Mayor Singson said in radio interview recently.
City Mayor Singson said that the city government is fully supporting all skills training provided by DSWD and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority because of its positive impact to the recipients.
The said skills training program is under the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood program.
SLP is one component of the core social protection programs aim to focus resources to fight the poverty incidence in the country.
Its purpose is to deliver a capacity building program to develop the entrepreneurial and labor skills of poor households by providing them with opportunities to enhance their access to basic social services and standard of living.
It is banking on the objective of improving the socio-economic capacity of the poor to enhance access to basic social services and improve their standard of living.
Among the specific objectives of the said program are to prepare participants for locally available jobs, to facilitate opportunities for micro-enterprise development and to expand the socio-economic benefits gained by the Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries.
Other specific objectives are to link beneficiaries to the support services and programs provided by the partner groups, to link beneficiaries to micro-insurance providers, to expand and update the portfolio of public and private sector partners and to promote a family-based approach and community participation in enterprise development comments.
