The Kalayaan mega job fair in the city turned out to be an instant blessing for 295 applicants as they were hired on the spot.
The said job fair which is annually spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Deputy Speaker Eric Singson and the city government of Candon headed by City Mayor Ericson Singson opened 5,511 job vacancies with 1,363 and 4,148 offered by 38 local and 14 overseas participating employers, respectively.
Heading the dignitaries present were DOLE Regional Dir. Nathaniel Lacambra, Deputy Speaker Singson and City Mayor Singson.
There was also one stop shop offer with representatives from national government agencies like DOLE, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Social Security System, Philippine National Police; Pagtutulungan sa Kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industria at Gobyerno (Pag- IBIG) and Department of Trade and Industry
Also providing assistance were the Public Employment Service Officers from different towns of southern Ilocos Sur and the city of Candon.
“We hope that the job fair will serve as their way out from the clutches of poverty or alleviate their respective lives for the betterment,” City Mayor Singson said.
Despite the intermittent weather, some 1,079 job seekers all over southern Ilocos Sur based on the report of DOLE joined in the job fair.
Also in the said report of DOLE, there were 1,111 who were qualified with 1,581 interviewed.
There were 208 near hired while there were 264 applicants referred to TESDA for skills training.
There were also 38 applicants referred to DTI for business opportunities while 404 applicants were referred to other government agencies.
DOLE region-I also initiated the two other job fairs held in Dagupan and San Fernando City, La Union.
