Change has come in Candon City: from applicants to instant workers!
Some 172 applicants were hired instant workers out of the thousands applied for work during the annual Kalayaan Mega Job Fair at the Candon Civic Center on June 12..
City Mayor Ericson Singson said, “We are very happy with the turnout of applicants which aimed to celebrate the Philippine Independence Day with a cause.”
The project is a joint sponsorship of Department of Labor and Employment, Congressman Eric Singson and the city government of Candon headed by City Mayor Singson.
Present during the one-day mega job fair were DOLE Regional Dir. Grace Ursua, Congressman Singson and City Mayor Singson.
Also present were the aligned national government agencies like Philippine Regulatory Commission, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Social Security System, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and DOLE.
There were 22 local and 11 overseas participating employers offering 1, 626 and 3,950 job vacancies respectively.
There was a huge turnout of applicants as there were 812 local applicants and 467 for overseas or a total of 1,279 who registered for job interview.
City’s PESO Judy Liao said that Candon’s turnout was the biggest in the three simultaneous Independence Day job fair. The other two were in San Fernando City, La Union and Dagupan city.
The PESO officers from the different towns of the second district, Congressional District Staff came over to assist while DOLE staff, City PESO, City Mayor’s office and General Service Office personnel help prepare the venue.
