Candon City’s chess wonder kid Mecel Angela Gadut was given recognition honors for her recent achievement during the flag raising ceremonies at the city hall Monday.

City Mayor Ericson Singson together with City Councilors Nestor Itchon, Aileen Rhoda Acal and Godofredo Abrero led the awarding of Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution of Appreciation, medal and cash incentives for winning the silver medal in the 12th ASIAN Schools Chess Championship (U-7 Girls Category) held in Tehran, Iran from July 9-18, 2016.

She made it to the tourney after topping the 2016 National Schools and Youth Chess Championships held in Manila recently.

Mecel, grade II pupil of Parioc East Elementary School, Parioc Segundo, Candon City was accompanied by her mother, Crisanta, Schools Division Superintendent  Gemma Tacuycuy, Alexander Razo, Education Supervisor- MAPEH, Parioc Segundo Punong Barangay Romeo Pilor and some of her relatives.

Actually Gadut was leading the tournament until six round before she lost her seventh round match to eventual champion Khamdamova Afruza Uzbekistan.

Gadut was half point adrift to Afruza.

This is Mecel’s second international stint after she made her maiden international tournament in Singapore last year.
