Candon City was awarded as the first city in Region I to develop, submit and implement Comprehensive Local Juvenile Intervention Program bestowed by the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council and Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Committee during 6th Juvenile Justice and Welfare Consciousness Week Regional celebration held at the La Union Provincial Capitol, San Fernando City, La Union recently.
“This is another manifestation that when national programs are downloaded to us, we immediately follow because we know that it will be for the good of our people especially those concerns,” City Mayor Ericson Singson said who personally received the recognition.
He was accompanied by City Social Welfare Officer Alma Gabor, Acting City Planning and Development Coordinator and Public Employment and Service Officer Judy Liao and City Information Officer Jun Babin.
There are nine cities in the region.
The RJJWC-I is chaired by DSWD Regional Dir. Marcelo Nicomedes Castillo.
Also given the distinction was Ilocos Sur being the first among the four provinces while Sudipen, La Union is first among the towns.
This year’s theme is “Mapagkalingang Hustisiya, Ugaliin at Pagtibayin.”
Based on Republic Act No. 9344 otherwise known as “Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006” covers the different stages involving children at risk and children in conflict with the law from prevention to rehabilitation and reintegration.
