The Kalayaan mega job fair created new jobs with 141 applicants hired on-the- spot out of 1,139 registrants held at the Candon Civic Center.

The Philippine Independence day celebration  side event lured 29 participating employers with 19 local and 10 overseas with top government officials in attendance headed by House Deputy Speaker Eric Singson, City Mayor Ericson Singson and Department of Labor and Employment Regional Dir. Nathaniel Lacambra.

Also in attendance were officials and representatives from participating national and local government offices.

“We are giving you the gift of opportunities. The freedom to apply your knowledge and skills with our prayers and hope you will make it all the way,” City Mayor Singson said addressing the job applicants.

Based on the data provided by Public Employment Service Officer Judy Wong- Liao, there were 10, 583 total vacancies with 9,808 overseas opening while 975 local.

Since applicants are allowed to apply for multiple positions or companies, there were 1,740 interviewed with 1,442 qualified.

Nurses turned out to be the hottest position sought followed by teaching and Customer Service Representatives.

Next are for office staff/ account officers and cashiers.

The city had been an annual venue of said mega job fair which is also being held in two other sites regionwide.

Among the government agencies that participated in the job fair were DOLE, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA), Professional Regulation Commission, Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth), PESO, Red Cross and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority ( TESDA).
